Mend the Middle:

A Plan to Invest in Saint Peter Middle School

To ensure the middle school can continue to support students’ success in the coming years, Saint Peter Public Schools is asking residents to consider a $10.965 million investment plan to update learning spaces within the facility and improve the overall educational adequacy of the building. District residents will have the opportunity to vote on the plan during a building bond referendum on Tuesday, April 9.

Saint Peter Middle School, which opened over 65 years ago as the former high school, has proudly served thousands of students. However, educational programs and the grades the building serves have changed dramatically since the facility was built. Because of this, current students and staff face several challenges due to the building’s age and design.

Improve and modernize learning spaces at the middle school

If voters approve the bond referendum, the plan will renovate the former high school science labs and STEM space to better meet the educational needs of students, refurbish outdated classrooms, hallways, and common spaces to meet the needs of today’s curriculum, replace leaking 65-year-old window systems throughout the building, update original bathrooms for ADA compliance, and replace and relocate a stairwell in the building to eliminate bottlenecks and improve student circulation.

If voters reject the ballot question, our students and staff will continue to face the challenges of using a 1950s building for modern learning.

Make sure to vote on or before Tuesday, April 9.
